1. The test will consist of multiple choice, True and False, and Short Answer.
What academic prompts(e.g. open-ended questions or problems that require students to think critically and then to prepare a response / product / performance) will provide evidence of understanding?
The students will design a Power Point and give an oral presentation answering the following questions: 1. What education does a Fashion Designer need? 2. How creative and artistic does a person interested in being a Fashion Designer have to be? 3. What do Fashion Houses require of their designers? 4. How do fledging designers get noticed while working in Houses of Fashion Design? 5. What does it take for a Fashion Designer to break away and go out on their own? 6. Does it take much money for a Fashion Designer to go independent?
What performance tasks and projects (e.g. complex challenges that are authentic, mirror the real world and require a performance or product)will you include that will provide evidence of student understanding?
The student will research, design and present a Power Point presentation orally in class. This is similar to presentations that Fashion Designers have to give when working for a Fashion House.
What other evidence (e.g. observations, work samples, dialogues, student self-assessment)of understanding will you collect?
1. The teacher will observe her students work habits, use of time and staying on task as part of the overall grade while using the computer. 2. The students will make a hard copy of their final Power Point presentation to turn in for a grade, to check for spelling errors. 3. Students will evaluate each others Power Point presentation to give feedback to the presenter.
Instructional Strategies
The students will use part of the inquiry-based and the project-based learning with this unit. This unit has the students researching and collecting information on a specific Fashion Designer, from a teacher, generated list. These Designers were chosen for their success in the Fashion Industry and the availability of information for this project. The students will have a set of questions that will need to be answered in their research and presented in their oral Power Point presentation. They will be graded on the Power Point and the oral presentation that goes along with it using a teacher, generated rubrics. Such items as planning, organization, arrangement of information, and creativity will be included in the rubrics. The students will also need to demonstrate the proper form of citing internet and other print sources. The student will submit both a hard copy and a copy of the Power Point on a disc to the teacher, as part of the assignment.
