My 5 Senses 2
For grade(s) K.
Subject & Standards
Science:Understandings & Goals
Enduring Understanding: I want students aware of the world they live in. I want students to be aware they are applying their senses to their world everyday. Goal(s): The students will become familiar with each of the five senses. The students will use their senses to complete projects. The students will explore each of the 5 senses with hands on experiences. The students will use computers and other technology to enhance their understanding of the 5 senses.
Questions Answered
Essential questions: What are the 5 senses? What way so we use our senses each day? Objectives: TSW experience the use of each of the 5 senses in the classroom. TSW name the 5 senses TSW name a body part used for each of the 5 senses TSW compare objects using one/more than one of the senses. TSW explain how we can use our senses together to understand the world we live in.
Assessment
What quiz and test items (e.g. simple content-focused questions that require a single, best answer) will provide evidence of understanding? For kindergarten we would use a series of class and individual discussion to provide evidence of understanding. What academic prompts (e.g. open-ended questions or problems that require students to think critically and then to prepare a response / product / performance) will provide evidence of understanding? open-ended questions: sight: What can you say to make me see purple? taste: What tastes cold? touch: How does it feel to take a drink? hear: What is a beautiful sound? smell: What is a beautiful smell? What performance tasks and projects (e.g. complex challenges that are authentic, mirror the real world and require a performance or product) will you include that will provide evidence of student understanding? 5 senses man using kid pics for the details Create a concept map using kidspiration describing the 5 senses What other evidence (e.g. observations, work samples, dialogues, student self-assessment) of understanding will you collect? 1. Concept web on the computer using all 5 senses 2. Kid pics picture of person. Put pictures on the sense it belongs (ear, tongue, fingers, nose, eyes) 3. class observation 4. class participation
Instructional Strategies
The kindergarten level seems to understand the project based strategy well. Using this angle helps students become aware of the use of the 5 senses in their everyday lives because they are creating the project. Our concept web is my example of this. They are taking each of the 5 senses and finding pictures of objects in the kidspiration clip art to go with each of the senses. This will help them become aware of the fact that they use their senses everyday.
