Learner Profile Card

For grade(s) 9-12.

Students will complete a preassessment of their learning styles to be used for differentiated grouping.

Subject & Standards

Needs Assessment/Rational

Our staff has been training in differentiated instruction and would like a learner profile for each student.  To avoid repetition, we will complete this process in the English classes and then students will provide a copy of the results to all of their teachers.  This should facilitate diferentiated grouping in any classroom.

Students will assess their learning style, modality preference, processing ability, and interaction style.

Assessment

1.  Students will design a learner profile card.
2.  Students will complete a written test on learning style terms, defintions, and learning strategies.
3.  Students will write a summary about their own learning needs.

Procedures

1. Introduction to differentiated learning.  Why is differentiating a good thing?
2. Powerpoint on learning styles, modality preference, processing ability, and interaction style.
3. Students complete and score self-assessments.
4. Students meet in small groups to discuss their findings.
5.  Students prepare learner profile card.
6.  Students summarize their own learning needs in the “All About Me” activitiy.
7.  Students complete a written test on learning style terms and applications.
