The North Dakota Curriculum Initiative (NDCI) is a long-term professional development program for North Dakota public and non-public school curriculum administrators and teachers.

THIS WORKSHOP will equip teachers, para-educators and other school staff with the knowledge needed to effectively help K-12 English Language Learners (ELLS) learn both the English language and academic content, as well as adjust socially and culturally to schooling in the United States. UND faculty members, Dr. Anne Walker and Dr. Jill Shafer, will work with participants to modify and adapt lesson plans for ELL students at different levels of English proficiency, and discuss ways in which classroom and ELL teachers can collaborate to better meet the needs of ELL students.
A recent article in the Harvard Education Letter states that “the Common Core State Standards are one of the most significant initiatives in American education in decades. Yet the swiftness with which they were developed and adopted has left educators uncertain about exactly what they are.
