4MAT Camp

Where: Sivert Thompson Center, Devils Lake

WHY:  To share what we are doing, get new ideas, create great units that will impact our students’ learning, and have FUN in a stress-free environment!
WHERE: Devils Lake, ND at the Sivert Thompson Center located within Graham’s Island Park
WHEN:  Wednesday and Thursday, July 11-12, 2007
TIME:  8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (lunch provided)
CREDIT:  One (1) SH Graduate Credit from UND
COST: $25 fee to cover expenses
GRADING:  Pass/Fail
ASSESSMENT:  Participate, complete two wheels and coach others.
ACCOMODATIONS: You may drive each day OR camp in the park OR stay at a Devil’s Lake hotel.  We chose Devils Lake as the most central location to the three districts.  There is a fee for a park pass for your vehicle--carpooling would help.
PRE-REQUISITE:  3 days of previous 4MAT Training

Developing and Assessing Mathematical Understandings: Numerical Reasoning

When: July 10-20, 2007
Where: Bismarck Hughes Educational Center, 806 N Washington, Bismarck, ND

The 9-day course is designed to develop and deepen participants’ understanding of number and improve their numerical reasoning skills.

This is an opportunity for teachers to…
• Receive four 400 quarter math credits from Western Washington ($48/credit = $192)
• OR receive four 500 level semester continuing edcuation credits from University of San Diego ($55/credit = $220)
• OR continuing education credit through Minot State University
• Receive materials and valuable information on numerical reasoning.
• Collaborate with other teachers from outside districts
• Lunch and snacks will be provided daily.

Who: Math teachers (grades K-12)
Note: A pre-requisite for this course is Algebraic Reasoning (9-day summer course). 
Enrollment is limited to 40

District Responsibilities: Pay $120 registration fee.
It is recommended that districts pay teachers a stipend for attending this course.
Districts are responsible for reimbursement of travel and evening.  Housing at BSC will be covered through the grant.

2007 North Dakota Geographic Alliance Summer Institute

The World, Our Village

Free books, If the World Were a Village and God Grew Tired of Us: A Memoir, to the first 40 registrants.

Experience North Dakota and the strength of classroom resources it provides by attending the ND Geographic Alliance Summer Institute. David Smith, author of If the World Were a Village, will be the keynote speaker. Receive his book free if you are one of the first 40 registrants. Highlights of the week-long Institute include interview/discussion with Sudanese “Lost Boys,” preview of a new movie about North Dakota, GIS/GoogleEarth training, Genographic project and DNA testing to find your ancient roots, panel discussion with local business people about emerging needs within our communit, Red River tour, and walking tour of Fargo. Teachers will receive packet of teaching resources any educator would not want to be without!

Cost: Institute cost is $100 for 2 hours of graduate credit (approval pending). NDGA will cover the cost of all Institute activites and resources.
